Coirón (noun) /ˈkɔɪ.rɒn/: The native grass of the Patagonian pampa, enduring wind, cold, drought, and poor soil, surviving where little else does. In the far south of Chilean Patagonia, a dwindling group of men known as ‘puesteros’ live in near solitude, tending livestock across vast private ranches. Once seen as symbols of freedom, their way of life now stands at a turning point, amidst unprecedented drought, modernisation, and a system that offers no real retirement, forcing many to work for as long as their bodies allow.

COIRÓN is a poetic long-form documentary project, photographed over the span of six years in the Chilean region of Magallanes, that explores the intimate world of some of these last ‘puesteros’. It’s a meditation on stillness, human resilience and the inevitable passing of time. A portrait of men living at the edge of the world pushing through because they must, through silence, endurance and repetition.

Why I need your support

With your support COIRÓN can become a book! By backing the Kickstarter Campaign, you are not only securing a signed copy of the book, but you are directly helping to cover the costs of printing, production, design, and distribution. If we hit our funding goal together, the money goes through, and the book goes to print in the summer of 2026. Towards the end of the summer everyone who ordered gets their books + prints delivered at home. If we don’t hit our goal, no one will be charged, and the project doesn’t happen. This means that every pledge really counts.

UPDATE: We currently have more than $45.000 pledged and over 375 backers. Don’t want to miss out? We have different rewards, from signed books to limited prints. Click the button below to learn more.
